Preserving Fresh Herbs, Ginger and Garlic

I love dhania (coriander) so much and have been trying to find ways to preserve it so I don’t have to go to the shops during the lockdown period.

This method is very easy and you can pair various herbs with oil or butter. See my easy DIY tricks below.

Directions for coriander

  1. Wash thoroughly under cold water.

  2. Chop herbs finely.

  3. In an ice tray, layer dhania at the bottom and cover with water.

  4. Freeze and use when needed.

  5. Alternatively, you can pat dry the bunches of dhania and freeze them in plastic packets.

Below are some herbs that you can freeze in oil or butter. The directions is the same as the above, except you will be using your favorite fats.

  • Rosemary

  • Thyme

  • Chives

  • Parsley

  • Basil

  • Sage

  • Mint

You can also immerse chopped up garlic and grated ginger in butter and freeze them. To use, thaw and add to a pan or spread in rolls and make your own garlic bread.
