Avocado Breakfast Smoothie
I’m not one for protein smoothies or smoothies in general. This avocado bowl though is amazing.
When I was young, my mother made a dessert very similar to this finger-licking green drink. It was sweet, and smooth and felt like a treat instead of a healthy bowl of nutritious goodness.
Recently, I’ve been reading up on rheumatoid arthritis and what to eat, and what to stay away from. Avocados, surprisingly, are beneficial. It contains anti-inflammatory properties and it’s a good source of vitamin E. It’s also rich in monounsaturated fats which helps protects joints from inflammation.
My protein of choice in this smoothie is raw eggs, but if you’re vegan or vegetarian, the pea-protein powder works well too.
Did you know: In SA it’s avocado season in the warmer months. To ripen avocados quicker than normal, put them in a bag with a banana. To slow down the ripening process, pop them in the fridge.
Ingredients
1 banana’s
1 small avocado
1 egg
1/2 cup of milk of your choice
honey to taste
pinch of salt
Method
Blend all of the above ingredients until smooth.
Enjoy with no toppings, unless you need the extra calories.
