Grapefruit, Berry Smoothie

Grapefruit, Berry Smoothie

Smoothies are quick, easy and so convenient, especially on days when you don’t have much time.

But, and this is a big but, smoothies can become so calorie dense and unhealthy if you blend too much fruit and add too much sugars like honey and maple syrup. My rule of thumb is 1 fruit = 1 carb = 1 snack so I don’t ever make smoothies for myself as a snack, I usually only make them at breakfast. That way I can have 1-2 fruit’s and 1 protein. When I went to the market this month I picked up really sweet grapefruit so this smoothie is inspired by summer fruits.

Note: If you’re lactose intolerant, I’ve made this smoothie with 1 egg and added 1/2 banana instead of the yogurt. It’s just as nice!

Ingredients

Juice of 1/2 grapefruit

5-8 large strawberries

1/3 cup blueberries

1/2 cup plain yogurt (I use Gero/Gourmet Greek)

1 tbsp honey (If I’ve exercised/otherwise none if I haven’t)

Method

  1. Add everything to a blender - I usually throw in my yogurt first and then my fruits.

  2. Drink immediately.
